The
boys headed off to Greenwich and we certainly didn't have a mean time.
The docklands area is impressively
modern, next to the quaint town of Greenwich.
The
Maritime museum was excellent – we were suitably impressed by this royal
carriage,
last used by Prince Albert.
The sections on the slave trade, WW1 and Nelson were very
interesting, including Nelson’s last jacket complete with bullet hole.
Then we headed through the expansive park and enjoyed the
view from the royal observatory before watching an extraordinary movie in the planetarium
about dark matter and dark energy – which astronomers are thoroughly convinced
must exist because of the effect they have, even though they can’t see them –
remind you of anyone?
Then back to town to meet the others. We tried to walk
across London Bridge – in fact we did, it just turns out that the nice looking
bridge is actually called Tower Bridge. Anyway, that meant we got a nice
picture of it from London Bridge.
The girls had been to the Nation Gallery and the Portrait Museum.
We saw some people we knew... recognise them??
...and we passed some interesting strangers...
Watching the sun set over Big Ben was beautiful...
Then Evensong at Westminster Abbey. What a shame that the beautiful singing was unintelligible as it was in another language, and everyday of the week they miss the opportunity to present the Gospel of Jesus to hundreds of tourist by not having a sermon. But at least the bible readings were clear and in a modern version.
Then off to West End for Vietnamese together before Danielle and Hamish went to see Les Miserables!
Les Miserable was AMAZING. We had wonderful seats (third row/centre) and we absolutely loved the whole thing. It was Hamish’s first live professional musical and he was blown away and no doubt now hooked to live musicals! A BIG THANK YOU to Grandma and Papa from Hamish for that wonderful birthday present. It will be remembered forever!
