Museum Mania

Food for thought at Musee Rodin ...

While the girls perused the impressionist artists at Musee d'Orsay, the boys headed for the Musee de l'Armee housed in the extraordinarily large Invalides - built by Louis XIV for injured soldiers.

The collection of weaponry and uniforms was huge. The boys particularly enjoyed the screen that re-created famous battles. Shaun was struck by the very positive portrayal of Napoleon and his wars across most of Europe. Quite a contrast with the section on Nelson's defeat of Napoleon at Trafalgar in the British Maritime museum two days before. Isaac was interested to learn about the Franco-Prussian war of 1870 as the seedbed of the first world war.

Sainte Chapelle - stained glass windows on steroids as Isaac put it... beautiful!!

What better way to end our first day all together in Paris - This is the view from l'Arc de Triomphe at night. Spectacular! Well worth the walk up all those stairs and the jelly legs and cries for food (from one little boy) on the way down...
