Honfleur - a lovely surprise

A night away in Normandy with our new friend Steve (otherwise known as Tom Tom)...
Who would have thought that a navigation device could be so much fun - once Isaac set the voice to 'English (Australian)'. Not just the accent but the lingo - 'turn on to the motorway and it's time to cruise', 'hang a hard right', 'straight ahead - too easy!' and 'you've reached your destination, so windows up, grab those sunnies and don't let the seagulls eat your chips'! And if you make a few wrong turns in a row, 'just hang a left as soon as you can mate' and 'don't worry about the driver we'll ditch him at the next servo' (although we may have misheard that last one as by then we were laughing hysterically!)

The car trip was amazing - thick fog, heavy frost and bright sunshine. Thanks Craig for the advice to include the small fishing town of Honfleur at the mouth of the Seine in our travels.
The town was absolutely beautiful and we were delighted.

We arrived just as the morning sun was shining on the beautiful buildings and the reflections on the water were just magical... a place for photographers and impressionist painters...

Even Isaac was caught up in the moment and took this photo before instructing us to break it up!

Then another wonderful drive to Caen to climb the ramparts of William the Conqueror, who crossed the channel and fought the battle of Hastings to claim the English throne. A real castle!

The weather is cold - even the bicycles are rugged up!

More Christmas markets and more of 'Papa's Beard'!

We finished the day with a terrific meal just near our hotel...
