More beautiful countryside and villages as we drove to Longues-sur-mer to see part of the 'Atlantic Wall' that the Germans built to protect against the expected allied invasion. These guns were a little rusted but the overall structure remains intact, looking towards the sea.

Seeing the guns was extraordinary in itself. There was something surreal about Elijah playing soccer in front of the guns. So much to be thankful for!

Next stop was the American cemetery at Omaha Beach.
Thousands upon thousands who gave their lives in the few weeks of the Battle of Normandie.

We enjoyed seeing the Bayeaux tapestry - commissioned by William the Conqueror's brother to glorify William's victory and to justify his invasion.
At 70m long it was amazing to see.
And we were the only ones there!

Elijah loved the tapestry. He writes - ' The big scroll of fabric was so so amazing and very very big. Can you imagine that people actually think there might have been even more of it originally? I liked how the pictures were old fashioned and I loved the story on my audio guide.
Actually I love all audio guides because I love stories. In one part of the story Harold got stabbed in the eye by an arrow.'

Off to Rouen...

The streets and Christmas lights in Rouen were lovely to walk around...
